ARE SIBERIAN CATS HIGH MAINTENANCE? MY EXPERIENCE AS A BREEDER.

When people see a Siberian cat for the first time, one of their first thoughts is usually:

“That is A LOT of fur.” 😂

And then comes the question… Are Siberian cats high maintenance?

After raising Siberians for years, I actually think the answer surprises people.

Yes, Siberians have a beautiful, thick triple coat, but in my experience, they aren’t nearly as difficult to care for as their appearance makes you think.

Their coats do benefit from regular brushing, especially during seasonal shedding, but you don’t have to spend hours every day maintaining them. Starting grooming when they’re kittens also makes a huge difference. It simply becomes part of their normal routine.

What actually requires more attention is their need to be involved.

Siberians are incredibly social and intelligent. They want interaction. They want to play. They want to investigate whatever you’re doing.

If you’re opening a box, they’re in it.

If you’re changing the sheets, they’re helping.

If you’re trying to work, there’s probably a Siberian sitting directly between you and your computer.

And if you bought them an expensive cat bed?

They’re probably sleeping in the empty cardboard box it came in. 😂

They also love climbing, jumping, chasing toys and exploring, so having scratching posts, climbing spaces and toys around the house is definitely helpful.

But I wouldn’t describe Siberians as difficult cats.

They’re just very involved cats.

They want to be part of your family and part of whatever is happening in your home. And honestly, that’s one of my favorite things about them.

So are Siberian cats high maintenance?

Their fur? Not as much as you’d think.

Their desire to be included in absolutely everything you’re doing? 100%. 😂

Siberian owners, would you agree?
