Why Siberian cats act more like dogs than cats

One thing I didn’t expect when I first started spending time around Siberian cats is how often people say the same thing:
“This cat acts more like a dog.”
At first I thought that was just something people said about any friendly cat, but after living with Siberians for a while, I understand exactly what they mean.
For one thing, Siberians are incredibly people-oriented. Many cats prefer to do their own thing, but Siberians often want to be wherever their people are. If you move from the kitchen to the living room, chances are your Siberian will quietly follow along just to see what you’re doing.
Another thing that surprises people is how playful they stay, even as adults. A lot of Siberians love interactive toys and will happily chase feathers, strings, or anything that moves. Some even learn to play fetch and bring toys back repeatedly.
They also tend to be very curious and confident. Instead of hiding when something new appears in the house, they’re usually the first ones investigating it.
Many Siberians also communicate with their people in soft little chirps and trills rather than loud meows. It sometimes feels like they’re talking back to you.
One of my favorite things to watch is how they greet people. Some Siberians will come to the door when someone arrives, almost like a dog welcoming you home.
Of course, every cat has its own personality, but this friendly, interactive nature is something many Siberian owners notice.
That combination of intelligence, playfulness, and loyalty is part of what makes the breed so special.
For anyone else who owns a Siberian… do you ever feel like you’re living with a tiny fluffy dog? 🐾
